Indicative rates, not a quote

Currency Quokka publishes currency conversions for general information. The figures are indicative European Central Bank reference rates as returned by the Frankfurter API. The browser requests api.frankfurter.dev/v1, which is the current location of the v1 feed originally published at api.frankfurter.app.

What the number is

The ECB’s Euro foreign-exchange reference rates are a benchmark, usually updated on ECB business days around 16:00 CET and not on TARGET closing days. Frankfurter lets you express those rates with a chosen base currency. If a pair does not include the Euro, the rate is a cross rate derived from the Euro reference rates. It is not a separate ECB fixing for that pair.

The date shown next to a result is the rate date from Frankfurter. On weekends and ECB holidays that date normally stays on the previous business day. A page can also be briefly out of date if the API is slow, cached, or unreachable.

What the number is not

  • It is not a bid, an offer, or a rate you can trade.
  • It is not the rate a bank, bureau, card network, or money-transfer service will give you. Those prices usually include a spread or a fee.
  • It is not financial, tax, legal, or investment advice.
  • It is not a promise that a rate will stay at the displayed figure.

How the math is shown

The converter multiplies your amount by the reference rate, then rounds the result for display. The sample table uses the same rate. Rounding can make a hand-check of the rounded unit rate differ by a cent or a fraction of a unit from the displayed total.

Coverage and availability

Only currencies Frankfurter currently exposes for ECB rates appear in the converter. A failed request, a missing currency, or a change in the upstream API can leave a page without a live figure. Pair pages may show the rate captured when the site was last built until a live refresh succeeds.

Currency Quokka does not hold customer funds, transmit money, or operate an account. There is no newsletter. Use the result as a baseline, then check the actual terms of any payment you make.
