About

A converter that shows its work

Currency Quokka converts an amount from one currency to another using indicative European Central Bank reference rates. Pair pages cover over 350 of the most popular currency pairs. The number on the page is a baseline you can compare with a bank, a card, or a transfer service. It is not the price those services will give you.

Rates come from the Frankfurter API, which republishes ECB reference rates. Your browser requests the latest rate. Pair pages also try to include a rate from the moment the site was last built, so the first view is not an empty box.

The ECB publishes Euro foreign-exchange reference rates on its business days, usually around 16:00 CET, and not on TARGET closing days. Frankfurter exposes those rates with a base currency you choose. When neither side of a pair is the Euro, the page is a cross rate derived from the Euro rates, and it says so.

What this site does not do

The name

Quokkas are small Australian marsupials with a reputation for looking unbothered. The name is a reminder to keep the tool calm: show the rate, show the date, show the math.
