Cookie policy

What we mean

Cookies are small text files a site can store on your device. This site also uses browser local storage for one preference. Local storage is similar in purpose to a cookie, but it is not sent to the server with every request.

The notice

A notice at the bottom of the page asks you to choose Accept or Essential only. Until you choose, analytics and advertising storage are denied. The notice stays available on later visits until a choice is saved.

Preference storage

Essential only and Accept both save your choice in local storage under cq-cookie-choice. The value is either “accepted” or “rejected”. The site reads it so the notice does not keep asking, and so Google Analytics follows the same choice. Clearing site data for currencyquokka.com removes it and the notice shows again.

Analytics cookies

If you accept, the page uses Google Analytics 4. Google may then store cookies such as:

  • _ga - distinguishes browsers, commonly for up to two years
  • _ga_ followed by a container id - used to persist session state, commonly for up to two years

Durations are set by Google and can change. If you choose Essential only, the page does not grant analytics storage, so those cookies should not be set for measurement.

Advertising cookies

No display-ad tag is installed. Advertising cookies are not part of the site today.

If the owner later adds an advertising partner, in the style of Google AdSense or a similar ad service, that partner may use cookies or similar technology to count impressions, cap frequency, measure performance, and personalize ads where you have allowed ad storage. Typical categories would be ad measurement and ad personalization. Those cookies would be described here before, or when, the ads are switched on. Accept would allow that storage. Essential only would keep it denied.

How to refuse or change your mind

  • Choose Essential only on the notice.
  • Clear this site’s stored data in your browser, reload, and choose again.
  • Block third-party cookies, or block Google’s domains, in the browser.
  • Use the opt-out controls Google publishes for ads and analytics, if you want a choice that reaches beyond this site.
